I'm a freelance science, environment, and health reporter based in New York City.
I regularly contribute to The New York Times, where I was a reporting fellow.
I've written quite a bit about trash, the surprising reasons we create so much of it and the unexpected ways it can impact our lives and environment. My reporting on a politician's trash-hauling business in Pennsylvania won the Keystone Press Award's top honors in investigative reporting and feature writing. Some of my trash reporting has been supported by Type Investigations.
At The Times, I covered climate health, or the ways that climate change and environmental pollution are already impacting our bodies and our quality of life.
In 2018, I started working for The Caucus, a watchdog newspaper in Harrisburg that's now part of Spotlight PA. In collaboration with The Philadelphia Inquirer, I also reported on a jail superintendent's longtime abuse of power, which resulted in his resignation and an overhaul of the prison board.
Before reporting, I was an editor at Harper's Magazine. I have an M.A. in science journalism from Columbia University, where I have since worked as a thesis adviser.
